The word is used two ways and the difference is money. Organic UGC is what a customer posts of their own accord. Paid UGC is a service: the creator is hired to produce footage that runs on the brand's account or in its ads, and it may never appear on the creator's own page at all. Pricing the second like the first is the most common way creators lose money on this work, because the audience they built is not what is being bought.
Worked example
A brand pays a creator for a video of its product to run in its own ads, without the creator posting it.
The usual mistake
Pricing UGC as if it were a post on your own account. The brand is buying the video and the right to use it.
